Lithuanians find outgoing year better than 2017 – survey

VILNIUS – Four out of ten Lithuanian residents over 15 believe the outgoing year was successful for them personally, and the number of those saying that the passing year was bad for them dropped three times, a survey for the Lietuvos Rytas daily has revealed.

39 percent said the passing year was successful for them, and 13 percent said the opposite. 2018 was the most successful year for Lithuanians over the past decade.

Last year, 34 percent said the outgoing year was good for them, and 16 percent said it was a bad year.

The comparison of the annual responses to this questions (Baltijos Tyrimai has been carrying out such surveys since 1995) shows that an almost identical response was in the pre-crisis years of 2006 and 2007 when the optimism level was record-high and stood at 39 and 40 percent respectively.

Lithuanians so far name 2009 as the worst year since the financial crisis struck then. Four out of ten respondents then said the passing year was bad for them personally, and only a seventh said it was good.
