VILNIUS - Kestutis Budrys said the first visit to Lithuania by Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi marks an important step in strengthening bilateral relations.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Monday’s meeting focused on political and economic cooperation and prospects for future expansion.

The ministers exchanged views on the geopolitical situation in Europe and the Middle East. Budrys reiterated Lithuania’s solidarity with Jordan following Iranian attacks against its territory during the regional military escalation, the statement said.

Both sides expressed a shared desire to revitalise political dialogue, with plans to organise the first round of political consultations in the near future.

"The first visit by a Jordanian foreign minister is a historic moment for our ties and a significant step for further bilateral cooperation," Budrys said.

The minister noted that Jordan is a key strategic partner for the European Union and an active NATO partner, sharing a common goal of enhancing security and stability.

The meeting also highlighted the impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine on global security. Budrys thanked Jordan for its stance at the United Nations and its support for efforts to return Ukrainian children illegally deported to Russia.
