RIGA - Two third-country nationals were detained on Monday for transporting persons who had illegally crossed the state border, the State Border Guard informed LETA.
State Police officers stopped an Audi A6 car driven by a third-country national in the passenger seat of another third-country national in the Rundeni territory of Ludza municipality.
During the inspection of the car, several persons ran out of the car. Border guards detained one person near the car and, during the search, six other persons of Asian origin without valid travel documents, valid visas or residence permits.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the carrier and the passenger under Article 285(3)(1) of the Criminal Code for illegal movement of persons across the state border, if committed during the period of operation of the reinforced border surveillance system.
Seven persons have been prevented from crossing the State border illegally under Article 4 of the State Border Guard Law.
