VILNIUS – A proposal to ban retailers from displaying tobacco and its products is set to be put before the Lithuanian parliament on Thursday by Health Minister Aurelijus Veryga.

Under the proposal, only special signs "We sell" and lists of products and their prices would denote the sale of tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes and related products, but the actual products would not be displayed.

Veryga says the move is aimed at reducing access to tobacco and making smoking less attractive to young people.

Such a practice is already in place in the United Kingdom, Iceland, Ireland, Norway and Finland.

The novelty would apply to tobacco stores and special store departments on conditions that actual good are not visible in external displays. There are also other conditions.
