State auditors' recommendations can help in discussions on cutting public spending - Rinkevics

RIGA - The conclusions and recommendations of the State Audit Office can be useful in discussions on saving budget expenditure and cutting red tape, President Edgars Rinkevics said during a meeting with Auditor General Edgars Korcaginas at his Jurmala residence on Wednesday.

As the president's adviser Martins Dregeris informed LETA, the meeting between the president and the auditor general focused on the State Audit Office's current activities, including progress on the implementation of the State Audit Office's recommendations for the public administration.

The president noted that the State Audit Office's task is to provide an impartial, justified and fair assessment of the use of state resources.

As LETA reported, ministries have submitted proposals for saving EUR 150 million in Latvia's budget with the aim of boosting public sector efficiency, strengthen the country's fiscal sustainability while reducing administrative costs.

In line with the timetable for the 2026 budget, an information report on spending cuts and reviews is to be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers by August 19.
