VILNIUS – The total number of Ukrainian war refugees registered in Lithuania has risen to 36,300, including 15,500 minors, official statistics showed on Tuesday.

Around a third of all refugees have been registered in the capital's registration center. Others have registered with the Migration Department's territorial units, and with registration centers in Klaipeda, Kaunas, Kaunas, Alytus, Siauliai and Marijampole.

Of the total number of war refugees registered so far, almost 4,200 are children under the age of six.

Some 1,311 refugees, including 504 minors, have been registered in Lithuania in the past 24 hours alone. The number of minors includes 141 children aged under six years.

Most of the arrivals have applied for a temporary residence permit on humanitarian grounds.

According to the United Nations, Russia's war on Ukraine has driven 10 million people from their homes, and 3.8 million have left the country.
