Minister-President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Schwesig to visit Latvia

RIGA - Manuela Schwesig, Minister-President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, is due to visit Latvia from this Wednesday to Friday, LETA was told at the German Embassy in Latvia.

During the visit, the minister-president of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is scheduled to meet with President Edgars Rinkevics, Prime Minister Evika Silina (New Unity) and Saeima Vice Speakers Zanda Kalnina-Lukasevica (New Unity) and Nina Nenaseva (Progressives).

Also on the visit' s agenda is a meeting with the Latvian economics, energy and defense ministers. Schwesig will be accompanied by a Mecklenburg-Vorpommern business delegation, which will include representatives of renewable energy, food and technology companies.

The visit will be joined by representatives of the Rostock Chamber of Industry and Commerce, academia, local authorities and the Bundeswehr. Together with the delegation, Schwesig will learn about the digitization of the Latvian economy and public administration, and visit the Latvian mobile communications service provider Latvijas Mobilais Telefons (LMT). She will give a speech at the Deep Tech Atelier tech conference.

Schwesig stresses that Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has traditionally had close ties with the Baltic States. During her visit, she hopes to expand economic contacts and strengthen cooperation in the Baltic Sea region.

"This is the aim of our Baltic Sea Strategy. Germany and Latvia are close partners in the European Union. We want to contribute to this good relationship," said the minister-president of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
