Lithuanian presidential aide dismisses new Russian threat over Kaliningrad (media)

VILNIUS - A Lithuanian presidential aide dismissed as baseless psychological pressure a new Russian threat to NATO countries over the Kaliningrad region, the 15min news portal reported on Tuesday.

"We are informed about the new Russian threats, which are completely baseless and seen as a measure of psychological pressure," Deividas Matulionis, national security aide to President Gitanas Nauseda, told the portal.

He also strongly condemned the threats to use force and said Russian efforts to limit military support for Ukraine would be fruitless. According to Matulionis, Lithuania will continue to fully support Ukraine.

Matulionis spoke after the Russian embassy in Belgium announced that Moscow was allegedly ready to use its entire weapons arsenal if NATO countries attempted to isolate the Kaliningrad region from the rest of the country.

As reported by 15min, the public statement claims that NATO in the Baltic region is constantly trying to create new threats to the Russian fleet and is openly modelling specific scenarios for the separation of the Kaliningrad region.

This is not the first time this year that Moscow's propaganda has accused NATO or alliance countries of plans to blockade or occupy Kaliningrad.
