VILNIUS – Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda on Monday met with the heads of Lithuanian diplomatic missions to discuss geopolitical and economic challenges.
At the annual meeting, they also talked about relations with key allies and partners, national priorities on the EU and NATO, security and defense, secure energy supplies, and economic diplomacy.
“We must utilize all political, economic and financial tools to effectively engage within the European Union and NATO, while strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations with allies and partners. Given geopolitical and economic uncertainties, as well as Russia’s war in Ukraine, it is imperative to maintain heightened focus, whether in Lithuania, Brussels or other global capitals,” a press release from the presidential office quoted Nauseda as saying at the meeting.
The Lithuanian leader stressed the importance of support to Ukraine and of fostering transatlantic and strategic bonds.
“We cannot afford fatigue in international organizations regarding the Ukraine issue. We must mobilize our resources and creativity to bolster support for Ukraine and to counter any initiatives by the aggressor Russia and its proxy, Belarus, on the multilateral stage,” the president said.
According to Nauseda, increased focus should also be placed on economic diplomacy, fostering stronger business relations with friendly nations and creating new opportunities for Lithuanian companies.
More than fifty diplomats have arrived in Vilnius for the annual meeting of the heads of Lithuania's diplomatic missions and consular offices, who will also meet with the speaker of the Seimas, the head of the government and ministers.
