VILNIUS – Lithuanian Finance Minister Gintare Skaiste has called for expanding sanctions against both Russia and Belarus and cutting off ways to circumvent them.
Skaiste discussed this at a meeting with US Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo in Washington, D.C., the Finance Ministry said on Friday.
"It is crucial to cut off the channels for circumventing sanctions through third countries, using the available financial and economic levers," Skaiste said in a press release.
"The expansion of the sanctions regime should focus on solutions that reduce Russia's budget revenue and limit its ability to finance the war against Ukraine," she added.
The minister "also underlined the need to mobilize sufficient support for the reconstruction of Ukraine and to find ways to use frozen Russian assets", according to the press release.
