Lithuania condemns Russian attacks on Ukraine, demands end to aggression

VILNIUS - Lithuania on Friday condemned Russia's continued mass attacks on Ukraine, its civilians and civilian infrastructure, the Foreign Ministry said.

A diplomatic note was handed to a representative of the Russian Embassy in Lithuania, who was summoned to the ministry.

According to the ministry, the note said that while world leaders were discussing international law and prospects for peace during the United Nations General Assembly high-level week in New York, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was declaring Moscow's readiness for peace talks, Russia's actions showed the opposite, with its forces continuing to carry out attacks against Ukraine and its civilians.

The note said Russian forces had attacked Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions with missiles and drones on September 23-24.

It also highlighted that drones used by Russia posed a danger not only to Ukrainians but also to residents of neighbouring countries. On the night of September 24, during mass Russian attacks on southern regions of Ukraine, at least several Russian drones violated the airspace of Romania and Moldova.

Lithuania called on Russia to immediately end its military aggression against Ukraine, stop attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, withdraw its military forces from all internationally recognised Ukrainian territory and compensate Ukraine for the damage caused.
