Lithuania: Budrys sacked from Rail Baltica Statyba

VILNIUS – Dainius Budrys, a member of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party and a former MP, has been sacked from the top executive of Rail Baltica Statyba (Rail Baltica Construction), the subsidiary of the state-run Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways) that coordinates the European-gauge railway project Rail Baltica in Lithuania. The information was confirmed to BNS by Budrys.

According to information available to BNS, the company will now be headed by Karolis Sankovskis , director of Strategic Infrastructure Department at Lithuania's electricity transmission system operator Litgrid whose responsibilities included construction of power interconnections to Sweden and Poland, NordBalt and Litpol Link.

Sources have told BNS that Rail Baltica Statyba's board on Friday dismissed Budrys from the position as of June 1.

Sankovskis confirmed to BNS that the company's board had discussed his candidacy, however, refused to comment on the decisions taken.

Budrys has been heading Rail Baltica Statyba since its establishment in early 2014. The company owns a third of the shares of Baltic company RB Rail, which construction of the Rail Baltica railway in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.
