Estonia to open its first AI factory this year

- Estonia joins the ranks of Northern European countries hosting international AI cloud infrastructure

- The Tallinn AI factory will be Nebius’s first AI infrastructure deployment in the Baltics

A 22 MW AI cloud infrastructure deployment by Nebius will go live at Greenergy Data Centers in Estonia later this year, establishing the largest AI factory in the Baltics. The Nasdaq-listed AI cloud company today announced that agreements signed in the second quarter have expanded its AI infrastructure footprint in Europe. 

The Estonian deployment joins Nebius’s rapidly expanding global capacity network. In Europe, Nebius is building large-scale AI factories in Lappeenranta, Finland, and Béthune, France, alongside an operational facility in Mäntsälä, Finland, and additional deployments in the UK, Spain, and Iceland. The first 22 MW phase of the Tallinn AI factory deployment is scheduled to come online later this year. 

According to Tom Blackwell, Nebius’s Chief Communications Officer, Estonia is a natural choice for Nebius, with its world-class engineering talent, vibrant digital economy and start-up culture, and ambitious plans for both AI and the clean energy transition. “Nebius’s Tallinn AI factory, in partnership with Greenergy Data Centers, will provide advanced AI cloud infrastructure to support Estonia’s growing innovation ecosystem and accelerate AI development and adoption,” Blackwell said.

According to Blackwell, Nebius looks forward to working with partners across Estonia, including government, industry and universities, to strengthen AI skills, broaden access to AI and position the country as a leading hub for AI innovation and talent.

Martin Salo, co-founder of Tensor Estate, which brings together a group of Estonian entrepreneurs and became a shareholder in Greenergy Data Centers last month, said the project announced today is the first phase of a broader development that will establish Estonia as one of the hubs for international AI infrastructure in the coming years.

“Until now, Northern Europe’s major AI factories have been concentrated primarily in Finland, Sweden and Norway, driven by competitive electricity prices, renewable energy and a favorable climate. Bringing the Baltics’ first AI factory to Estonia means that we are joining the group of countries where the world’s leading AI companies are building their infrastructure,” Martin said.

Nebius will become the first international AI cloud customer to deploy infrastructure at Greenergy Data Centers. The company serves a diverse global customer base from frontier labs and AI native scaleups to major enterprises, as well as leading technology companies including Microsoft and Meta. Nebius is helping expand Europe’s AI capacity, bringing high-performance compute closer to the researchers, startups and enterprises building and deploying AI at scale.
