RIGA - Economic cooperation with Ukraine is an important contribution to our region's the future and our common security, Prime Minister Evika Silina (New Unity) said Tuesday following a meeting with Oleh Nemchinov, Minister of the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers.
As the prime minister's spokeswoman Elina Lidere told LETA, during the meeting, the officials discussed strengthening economic cooperation, particularly in the military industry, as well as existing support to Ukraine for reconstruction in Chernihiv Region.
Silina noted that thanks to Latvia's assistance, in Chernihiv, war-ravaged housing and educational institutions are being rebuilt and heating provided during the cold winter months.
"This support is not only a step towards the reconstruction of Ukraine, but also an opportunity for Latvian entrepreneurs to expand cooperation and develop new projects," the prime minister said.
Silina underlined that Latvia is a reliable ally in Ukraine's fight against Russian aggression and on its path towards accession to the European Union (EU).
