RIGA - Around 20 foreign ministers from European Union countries, including Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braze (New Unity), are visiting the western Ukrainian city of Lviv on Friday, LETA was told at the Foreign Ministry.
In addition to EU foreign ministers, around 30 high-level EU officials, including the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kay Kallas, will also visit Lviv.
Since 2023, instead of celebrating Victory Day, Ukraine marks Europe Day on May 9. Before the decree signed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine celebrated May 9 as the day of the defeat of Nazism in the Second World War.
In Russia, the defeat of Nazism is celebrated on May 9. In Europe, the end of the Second World War is commemorated on May 8.
