RIGA - The Latvian Embassy in the United States has confirmed to LETA that 125 Latvian nationals to be deported from the United States have violated immigration rules, that is, they have not settled all the formalities for legal residence in the United States, as the embassy was informed by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
This does not mean that these persons have been detained and are being deported from the United States. Before deportation, the U.S. authorities determine if a person is lawfully present in the United States, in which case they will not be deported, the embassy explained.
As reported, the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement has 125 Latvian nationals on its list of nearly 1.5 million deportable persons, Estonian public broadcaster ERR reports, citing a list published by US media.
