RIGA - On May 4, a number of events will take place in Riga to mark the 36th anniversary of the restoration of Latvia's independence, Riga City Council's External Communications Department informed LETA.
From 10 a.m. on Monday until the evening of the following day, residents and guests will have the opportunity to take part in creating a flower composition at the Freedom Monument, jointly creating a flowering map of the country, symbolizing unity and mutual respect.
State and municipal officials will participate in a flower-laying ceremony at the Freedom Monument at 10.30 a.m., while at 12 noon Latvian schools' brass bands will give a concert at the Freedom Square.
Vermane Garden will host different workshops for families with children and a table hockey tournament. Children's choirs and dance groups will perform on Vermane Garden stage from 12 noon to 14.40 p.m.
Folklore groups Kokle, Skandinieki, Vilkaci, Rigas Dancu Klubs and Bricka will take part in a concert in Town Hall Square that will start at 12 noon. A traditional folk costume parade from the Town Hall Square to the Freedom Monument will take place from 14.10 p.m. to 14.30 p.m.
Throughout the day, Latvian films will be screened at Splendid Palace film theater. Entrance will be free of charge.
A concert celebrating the Latvian Independence Restoration Day will take place in the Freedom Square, featuring performances by folklore groups, children's choirs and dance ensembles, and others.
Concerts celebrating the restoration of Latvian independence will also take place in Riga neighborhoods: VEF Culture Center, Imanta Culture Center, Ziemelblazma Culture Center, and Ilguciems Culture Center.
