Estonia opens first online casino under new law
The first casino under the new law is run by Olympic Group, one of the largest casino operators in Eastern Europe.

TALLINN - Estonia's first online casino has opened for business, one month after a law legalizing the practice in the country.

Olympic Casino Group started up  "Olympic-Online.com" in mid-Febrary after obtaining the first licence to do so on Jan. 21 in cooperation with Playtech software.

It offers its players the possibility to play over 150 different online games connecting to the largest poker network in the world, iPoker.

Olympic is one of the major casino operators in east Europe, employing more than two thousand people in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Romania, Poland and Slovakia.

Online gambling  was made legal about a month ago. The first stage of the law, which is currently in effect, will allow online gambling at a few licenced casinos that must lie within Estonian borders. The second stage, due to come into effect next year, will open the market to foreign operators.
