EC President von der Leyen to pay a campaign visit to Latvia

RIGA - On Monday, April 15, the President of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, will visit Latvia to campaign for the European Parliament (EP) elections, LETA was informed by New Unity.

Von der Leyen is expected to visit Riga Stradins University in the morning, where she will meet with students. Later, she will visit the NATO Center of Excellence for Strategic Communication, which focuses on countering disinformation and supports NATO's strategic communication capabilities.

During the day, the EC President will meet with MEP candidates from New Unity, lay flowers at the Freedom Monument, meet with women's rights organisations such as Centrs Marta and "Novatore, and as well as with New Unity's youth organisation.

At the end of her visit, the EC President will visit the factory of the drone manufacturer Edge Autonomy to discuss with its employees and managers efforts to strengthen the EU's defense industrial base.

During her visit, von der Leyen will be joined by Prime Minister Evika Silina (New Unity) and the European Commission Executive Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis (New Unity), who is running for the EP on top of New Unity's list.

Leyen's Christian Democratic Party of Germany (CDU) and New Unity are members of the European People's Party (EPP).
