Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius has blasted Ukraine for “insufficient measures” against corruption.

His comments come following the resignation of Ukraine’s Lithuanian-born Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Aivaras Abromavicius, who resigned on February 3, 2016.

Linkevicius hopes Abromavicius' resignation "will make [Ukraine] realise that  the time has come for a radical clean-up, not [just] words."

"People are really fed up not only with the war (…) but also with corruption, and insufficient moves to eradicate it,” Linkevicius told the Ziniu Radijas radio station on the morning of February 9.

According to Linkevicius, the existing tension in the Ukrainian government "is raising concern for everyone expecting effective reforms in Ukraine.”

He added that a collapse of government would lead to even more instability coupled with the already existing worsening security situation.

"I believe I'm not the only one disappointed here, there are many. We'll see how things will now be resolved," he concluded.

Abromavicius is the fourth pro-reform minister in the Ukrainian government to have quit Ukraine's Cabinet since the 2014 Euromaidan revolution.

Western countries believe his resignation is a serious signal that necessary reforms in Ukraine are stalling.
