RIGA - Latvia could offer its experience in explosive ordnance disposal to help ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, Prime Minister Evikas Silina's (JV) national security advisor Airis Rikveilis told LETA.
Latvia supports international efforts to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, Rikveilis emphasized. Latvia should work together with the United States to achieve the objective, he said.
"We are considering our country's contribution in areas where we have expertise - explosive ordnance disposal," said Rikveilis.
According to Rikveilis, once the outlines of international coalition for freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz become clearer, the scope of Latvia's contribution will also become clearer.
Although Iran announced on Friday that it was reopening the strait, it closed it again on Saturday after US President Donald Trump said that the US naval blockade of Iranian ports would remain in place until a peace deal.
