MOSCOW - The Council of Europe should stop country monitoring and interference in sovereign affairs, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said on Tuesday.

"The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is a parliamentary organization, not a political one, so the PACE should rid itself of the atavisms it has inherited due to its wish to be a political organization, such as monitoring and interference in affairs of other states," Volodin said.

Interference in sovereign affairs is inadmissible, and understanding of this fact "must be a norm and a rule," he said.
