TALLINN – Problems may be encountered when using the Estonian electronic ID-card with version 11 of Apple's operating system, titled macOS Big Sur, that is to be released later this fall, the Estonian Information System Authority (RIA) said on Monday.
RIA has tested the Estonian ID-card software with various beta versions of the new macOS version 11, and as things stand, it is not possible to use the ID-card in the new operating system with the DigiDoc4 Client app.
Nor can the ID-card be used for authentication via browsers or digital signing of documents because the operating system has problems communicating with the chip card.
RIA is informed about the problem and has also notified representatives of Apple about it.
RIA advises users of the ID-card to adjourn their switch to the new operating system.
The problem does not affect users of Mobile-ID and Smart-ID.
