TALLINN - In May, beekeepers were able to apply for bee colony support, and on Friday, the Agricultural Registers and Information Board (PRIA) paid out a total of 545,154 euros to 315 honey producers.
The bee colony support helps ensure food security and the competitiveness of the beekeeping sector. It also contributes to preserving biodiversity and increasing the yield of agricultural crops.
The support is funded by the state budget, which amounts to 560,000 euros for 2026. The specific amount of aid per colony depends on the total number of bee colonies deemed eligible. On September 28, the Director General of PRIA approved the unit rate for the 2026 bee colony support at 22.92 euros per eligible colony.
The highest number of beneficiaries is in Lääne-Viru County, with 44, followed by Harju County with 34 and Viljandi County with 33 applicants. The largest total amount was paid to honey producers in Tartu County, exceeding 81,000 euros.
