TALLINN - Estonian President Alar Karis said at a meeting with Matti Maasikas, head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, in Kadriorg on Wednesday that Ukraine needs comprehensive support and a consensus between its European partners.
It was acknowledged at the meeting that Russia's military activities in the region jeopardize the security of Ukraine and all of Europe, thus, Europe's continued support to Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty is crucial, spokespeople for the Office of the President said.
"Despite constant hostilities in eastern Ukraine, Ukrainians remain pro-reform and continue the efforts needed to integrate with the European Union. This is a country that holds democratic values in high regard, and Estonia supports Ukraine's ambition to become a member of the European Union and Ukrainians' right to decide independently which unions they want to be part of," the head of state said at the meeting.
Karis said that Estonia attaches great importance to EU's activities in Ukraine and continues to assist Ukraine both bilaterally as well as through various EU initiatives.
The Estonian president is planning to visit Ukraine at the start of 2022.
