The International “Midsummer Vilnius” Festival continues its tradition of unveiling some performances before Christmas. The great shows under the midsummer sky will take place on 15–26 July 2024 in the very heart of Lithuania, at the central Courtyard of the Palace of the Grand Dukes. Music lovers will enjoy the festival’s greatest and most remarkable international collaboration and the comeback of the long-awaited extraordinary opera-under-the-stars format.

The “Midsummer Vilnius” Festival is a unique city music celebration offering the public one-time experiences, exceptional international collaborations, and world premières. The motto of this year’s festival is “Once in a lifetime experience”.

“The Festival’s long-standing mission is to create sensitive, contemporary, and aesthetically inclusive open-air performances. We strive to be the inspirers and innovators of metropolitan culture”, says Valdas Petreikis, the event director. “This year, we will use the festival platform to discuss issues related to art, creators, production opportunities, and boundaries in the current era of artificial intelligence.”

America’s second-best jazz singer

On 15 July 2024, the ninth “Midsummer Vilnius” Festival will open with a spectacular concert by the Grammy-award winning jazz vocalist Gregory Porter with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra conducted by Modestas Pitrėnas. The musical arrangements for this concert will be created by the talented Lithuanian composer Jievaras Jasinskis. This is a rare opportunity to experience Gregory Porter’s one-time performance in Vilnius.

The world-famous singer has been praised as “America’s second-best jazz singer” after Louis Armstrong. Gregory Porter’s creations bring listeners to a different time and space. His music is a blend of jazz, blues, gospel, and soul.

Gregory Porter, who has captivated audiences worldwide, has many fans in Lithuania. His concerts, which usually sell out quickly, are a feast for the ears of music lovers.

The thrill of love and passion

Next year, the “Midsummer Vilnius” Festival returns with its cherished and much-appreciated format—Opera Under the Stars.

On the evening of 25 July, the timeless love story, Georges Bizet’s opera “Carmen” will be performed by one of Lithuania’s most talented opera soloists, Edgaras Montvidas, together with the evening’s guests and the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra conducted by Modestas Pitrėnas.

Opera Under the Stars is an extraordinary spectacle worth experiencing at least once in a lifetime. Every year, passionate opera lovers travel hundreds of kilometres every year to listen to unique productions in spectacular spaces. That’s precisely what the “Midsummer Vilnius” Festival offers.

Retro-romantic music party under the stars

One of the country’s most stylish performers, Justinas Jarutis, will close the “Midsummer Vilnius” Festival with a mesmerising performance on 26 July 2024. The bright, sexy, retro-romantic show will include dancing and partying until dusk (no usual seating is arranged).

“Performing at the “Midsummer Vilnius” Festival is a pure pleasure. This will be the third time I will be performing on the amazing stage at the central Courtyard of the Palace of the Grand Dukes. Since it will be the festival’s closing concert, we will certainly make some noise. I want the audience to feel like the real rulers of Vilnius and have fun at the same time”, says Justinas Jarutis.
