During the lead-up to and the week after Midsummer’s Day, Tallinn Botanic Garden is celebrating the blooming season of the majestic peonies. From 22 to 28 June, you can enjoy the beauty of peonies, take part in fascinating tours and get tips on how to grow peonies yourself.
The botanic gardens’ exhibit presents the history of peony cultivation. The collection features nearly 300 varieties, cultivars and hybrids of peonies with different flowering colours, as well as the new Itoh peonies.
"Along with roses, peonies have become one of the most popular mid-summer perennials. These lush and hardy flowers whose blooming is a highlight of the summer are becoming highly sought after for people’s gardens," says Anne Jaakson, curator of the peonies at Tallinn Botanic Garden.
During the Peony Days there will be guided tours led by Anne Jaakson, the curator of the peony collection, a plant sale from the selection of the Mädapea manor flower garden and advice for those who want to enrich their gardens with peonies. On Saturday, 28 June, there will also be a performance by the dance group "Tuisuline".
