Russian military aircraft, warship spotted near Latvian waters today

RIGA - A Russian military plane and a landing craft were spotted near Latvia’s territorial waters today, the National Armed Forces said on Twitter.

NATO jets policing Baltic airspace detected a Russian Su-27 aircraft flying over neutral waters of the Baltic Sea, near Latvia’s border.

Also, the Alexander Shabalin, a Ropucha-class landing ship had entered Latvia’s exclusive economic zone three nautical miles or less than six kilometers from Latvia’s territorial waters.

As reported, the Russian military vessel Syzran was detected in Latvia’s exclusive economic zone, 25 nautical miles from Latvia’s territorial waters on January 25.

Russian military aircraft and warships have been seen approaching Latvia’s borders regularly in recent years.
