MOSCOW - Russia will expand its black list for the European Union in response to sanctions imposed by the EU, as Russian Foreign Ministry representative Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.

"In response to the actions of the European Union, Russia has decided to expand the list of representatives of EU member countries and institutions that are prohibited from entering Russia," Zakharova said.

She said that the number of people on the list was equal to the EU list, but declined to reveal the names of the newcomers to the list.

The European Parliament last week condemned the poisoning of the Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny and called for tougher EU sanctions against Russia.
