A comparison of household expenses in the capitals of each of the Baltic States has found that the residents of Riga have the highest cost of living, according to Swedbank's Institute of Private Finances.

A family of four that lives in a 70 square meter flat that they own and that was built during the Soviet period, would spend on average 44 percent of their income in Riga and 41.5 percent in Vilnius, whereas in Tallinn they would spend only 25.5 percent of the household income.

This means that a family of four with typical costs for housing, groceries and transportation would end up spending around 591 euros in Riga, around 513 euros in Vilnius, and around 499 euros in Tallinn.
