BRUSELLS - Some 150 million Covid-19 vaccine doses have been doled out in European Union, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Tuesday, heralding the milestone.

"A quarter of all Europeans have had their first dose," the EU executive chief wrote on Twitter.

"We'll have enough doses for vaccinating 70 percent of EU adults in July," she added, a reference to the bloc's major target for its vaccination strategy.

Close to 450 million people live in the 27 member states of the European Union. According to the commission, 266 million of these people are adults.
