President and foreign minister discuss participation in UN General Assembly and NATO summit

RIGA - President Egils Levits and Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics (New Unity) met today to discuss Levits’ upcoming participation in the UN General Assembly in September and the NATO summit in December.

The Latvian president is scheduled to deliver a speech at the UN General Assembly, Rinkevics told LETA.

The meeting of the two officials also dealt with current foreign affairs, with Rinkevics informing Levits about the Foreign Ministry’s efforts to provide consular assistance to the Latvian national who is a crewmember of the Stena Impero tanker which has been seized by Iranian authorities.

The foreign affairs topics discussed during the meeting also included Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda’s forthcoming working visit to Latvia, the Climate Summit scheduled for September, the European Union’s multiannual budget and Brexit.
