Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications Meelis Atonen said he planned to provide virtually every farm in Estonia with broadband connections and hopes to gain a favorable software supply contract from Microsoft. Atonen, together with ministers from East European countries, also met Microsoft President Bill Gates in Bratislava Jan. 27.

According to Atonen, Microsoft could show its flexibility and offer its software products to the Estonian government at a discount price. The government would then use the software in the IT awareness and internet popularization projects in Estonia.
Dozens of paintings and other works have been stolen from the art collection of the Artists' Union in Tartu during the last decade. The value of the missing works amounts to about 63,000 euros. The management of the Artists' Union does not have a clear, comprehensive report of the missing works.
