VILNIUS (ELTA) - Experts from Lithuania's agricultural service and their colleagues from Holland launched an integrated dairy project. The project is oriented towards high quality milk production, its processing and sales with focus on preparing rural development plans upon which basis EU support program SAPARD is to issue financial aid.

The project initiators selected four out of 3,000 Panevezys Pienas dairy suppliers from Panevezys region and five from Skuodas region to participate in the plan pushing the increase of cattle productivity, improved milk, efficient pastures, modern fodder production and milking techniques. The Dutch are expected to bring to Lithuania new machinery needed for silos production - grass mower, grass roll maker, loader and other equipment to be used at Dotnuvos Projektai UAB. Project participants will be able to purchase cheaper grass seed, modern coolers for storing milk and mobile milking equipment. They will be able to pay just 30 percent of their actual price. Next year, the best performing farmers will have a chance to buy Holland cows on the same favorable conditions.
