According to the government statistics department, Lithuania witnessed its lowest ever birthrate last year, with 30,000 babies born in 2002 or 8.6 births per 1,000 residents. Previously 34,100 children were born in 2000 and 31,500 babies arrived in 2001.In hopes of facilitating the travel of people visiting the country for a short period of time, Lithuania has simplified the visa-issuing procedure for citizens of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine.
