President Rolandas Paksas refused to appear before the special parliamentary commission investigating possible threats to national security posed by his administration. Commission members rejected his request to provide answers to their questions in writing, stating he had no right to refuse their invitation to appear in person.A poll published in the daily Lietuvos Rytas on Nov. 29 revealed that Paksas' approval rating had slipped to 37.4 percent, down from 40.8 percent at the beginning of the month.
