Poland insists on keeping Nice vote deal intact

WARSAW - Poland has bluntly told Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi that it would not modify the terms under which it agreed to join the European Union next year, a senior Cabinet member said Nov. 21.Darius Szymczycha, secretary of state in the Polish presidency, said that there had been no breakthrough in three hours of talks between Berlusconi, whose country currently holds the EU presidency, and top Polish officials."We have not changed our position," Szymczycha said.There had been hopes Berlusconi, taking part here in a 17-nation summit meeting of Central and East European states,...
