Freivalds urges EU to help with border dispute

RIGA - Swedish Foreign Minister Laila Freivalds recommended that the European Union help Russia and Latvia finalize a bilateral border treaty while in Riga last week.Freivalds, on her first trip abroad as Sweden's new foreign minister, stressed that Russia should not attempt to use treaty ratification and the status of Russian minorities in the Baltic states as bargaining issues with the EU."The EU's position so far has been very clear, and it should be even more clear in the future: these things [minority issues and EU cooperation] should not be mixed together," Latvian-born Freivalds sa...
