New alcohol sale restrictions mulled

TALLINN - The Social Affairs Ministry recommended last week to increase the age requirement for purchases of alcoholic beverages from 18 to 21 years as a way to combat consumption among adolescents.In addition, the ministry would like to amend the criminal code to classify public intoxication as an aggravated misdemeanor, which would entail a higher fine or longer prison sentence.The government's current anti-alcohol crusade is also being sponsored by the Education Ministry, which has submitted its draft alcohol- and drug-prevention program to the government.The ultimate aim of the program ...
