UNESCO questions D-6 oil project

VILNIUS - After finding that the oil extraction platform at the D-6 deposit near the Curonian Spit lacks a zero discharge system, experts from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization have expressed new concern about the hazard of environmental pollution associated with the project. Russia had previously stated that no international experts would be allowed on its territory to survey the project site, but the U.N. agency was able to secure a visit as part of its review of the country's plans to produce oil in the Baltic Sea."The task group had a chance to inspect...
