President Rolandas Paksas nominated Gintaras Bagdonas, the current director of counterintelligence at the Defense Ministry, to become director general of the State Security Department. If approved by the Seimas (Lithuania's parliament), Bagdonas will replace outgoing security chief Mecys Laurinkus, who has held the post since 1998.The office of Rolandas Paksas announced that he would make an official state visit to the United States in early December.
