Russia saves neighbor from food crisis

MOSCOW - Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed Aug. 1 that Moscow would deliver grain to help neighboring Ukraine deal with an escalating food crisis, which has seen Ukrainians hoarding food amid fears of famine. "As it goes between good friends and neighbors — practically cousins — we can lend a hand and deliver grain to Ukraine," Putin told visiting Ukrainian Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich.Food hoarding has sent prices skyrocketing by 30 percent – 150 percent.Putin said Russia would begin delivering 220,000 tons of grain reserves to Ukraine in August with an agreement on the price ...
