RIGA - Latvia's attempt to put the Soviet regime on trial was met this week by a swell of local and international protest.The national director of the Anti Defamation League, a New York-based Jewish organization, resigned from the Latvian Commission of Historians on Oct. 29. In his letter to President Vaira Vike-Freiberga, Abraham Foxman wrote that he was "deeply offended by the intermingling and confusion" of the Jewish Holocaust and Soviet atrocities in Latvia.
