Latvian cyclist redeemed by higher court

VILNIUSThe infamous jail sentence imposed on a well-known Latvian cyclist that many considered to be a miscarriage of justice has been struck down by Lithuania's Constitutional Court.The court ruled on June 10 that the sentence handed down to Juris Silovs, an internationally known cyclist, after his conviction on charges of evading customs inspection was too harsh.Silovs was found guilty in April 2002 of failing to declare a substantial amount of cash he was carrying through Lithua-nian on his way to Latvia.
