Saami minority seeks return of land

HELSINKIThe president of Finland's indigenous Saami population's Parliament asked the government on May 16 to return land he alleges was illegally taken from his people.In a report to the justice minister, Pekka Aikio outlined his claims that the state illegally expropriated some 33,000 square kilometers of land from the Saami and demanded restitution of their collective ownership and rights.
