Kremlin: No 750th anniversary for Russian 'Konigsberg'

MOSCOWRussia's presidential office has decided not to mark the jubilee of Russia's most western city, Kaliningrad, the former German city of Konigsberg which will turn 750 in 2005. Vladimir Yegorov, governor of Kaliningrad Oblast, received a letter from Kremlin saying that there were no historic reasons to mark the date of the city's founding.Last year Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov proposed celebrating Kaliningrad's 750 anniversary.The regional administration, as well as many residents of the exclave, were hoping that the anniversary hoopla would draw tourists, investment and attention to...
