Health care employees fight for better wages

RIGAHealth care workers submitted the government new demands in an effort to stem the damage caused by budget cuts in the national health care system. Officials from the Health and Social Care Employees Trade Union said the crux of their demands was an insistence on more funds for salaries and wages and a shorter working week for medical personnel as was agreed upon in the government's resolution in July of last year."Unfortunately, out of six demands the only one that was satisfied was determining health care as a major priority while compiling the 2003 budget," said Ruta Viksna, chairwoma...
