Two sentenced in first major trafficking case

LIEPAJAA regional court in this western port town Feb. 24 convicted two men of trafficking women and teenage girls for work in Germany's sex industry, making it Latvia's first major trafficking conviction.Maris Bukovskis was handed a 13-year prison sentence for procuring and imprisoning three women and an underage girl, and sending them to Germany, and for raping two women, a court official said.His accomplice, Raimonds Stepka, received an eight-year sentence on trafficking offenses, said court secretary Ingrida Junghane."This is the first serious court sentence given to traffickers," said ...
