Genocide case opened

RIGA (BNS) - The Riga District Court began to review Aug. 24 the criminal case against the former Daugavpils NKVD deputy chief Mihail Farbtuhs, who is charged with genocide against the Latvian nation.Both the 83-year-old defendant and his 12 victims were present at court. Far-btuhs said that he did not know any of the victims present in the court room and that he did not recall any of their names. He believes he is not guilty and never anticipated that he could be tried for genocide."I believe I do not deserve any punishment," said Farbtuhs.Arija Brante, whose family was deported to Siberia...
