New income requirement for residence permits

TALLINN - As part of the law on aliens, the Estonian government decided this week on a legal income requirement for foreigners wishing to seek temporary or permanent residence in Estonia. The bill requires that an alien have a legal income totaling 18 times the average gross monthly wage here for six months prior to filing an application for a residency permit. That means that each month within the six month period preceding the filing of a resident permit application, a foreigner should have averaged a salary of three times that of the average Estonian's salary per month.
